Route 1&9/Tonnele Avenue in North Bergen will experience a northbound lane closure this weekend due to ongoing work on the Hudson Tunnel Project, part of the Gateway Program. The New Jersey Department of Transportation announced that the right lane will be closed from 8 p.m. on Friday, November 21, until 5 a.m. on Monday, November 24. This closure is necessary for pouring and curing a concrete bridge deck.

The affected area stretches between Taco Bell and Route 3 in North Bergen. During this period, one lane will remain open, while southbound traffic will not be impacted. Once reopened on Monday morning, trucks are advised to use the left lane through Tuesday.

Motorists should anticipate delays and exercise caution when traveling through the work zone. The Hudson Tunnel Project aims to replace and update rail infrastructure along a 10-mile section of the Northeast Corridor, including constructing a new two-track rail tunnel under the Hudson River from New Jersey to Manhattan.

Weather or other factors may alter the timing of this work. NJDOT Commissioner Fran O’Connor emphasizes that “safety is everyone’s responsibility,” urging drivers to prioritize roadway safety.
