Senator Jim Holzapfel has criticized the budget process conducted by Trenton Democrats, describing it as a missed opportunity for New Jersey. According to Holzapfel, the budget fails to make the state stronger and fairer.

“Trenton Democrats should be ashamed of themselves. This budget is yet another parade of missed opportunities that at the end of the day, leave New Jersey in a worse place than it was just one year ago,” stated Sen. Holzapfel. He expressed disappointment over what he sees as Democrats blaming the federal government while ignoring their own actions.

Holzapfel further criticized the fiscal responsibility of the budget, highlighting disparities in school funding across districts. “This budget is anything but fiscally responsible. While districts like Newark, funded primarily by taxpayers, can blow $250,000 to buy balloons for parties, schools in Toms River and Brick are having their aid slashed,” he said.

He also pointed out concerns about spending within the budget: “On top of that, this budget is stuffed with more than $500 million in pork across 400 opaque line items, and we are still paying the cost of Medicaid for illegal immigrants.” According to Holzapfel, these issues contribute to making New Jersey less affordable for its residents.
