Senator Jim Holzapfel has voiced criticism against Trenton Democrats for their decision to reject two proposals from Senate Republicans aimed at reducing energy costs for New Jersey residents. The first proposal suggested expanding the investigation into rising energy rates to include the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (BPU), rather than having the BPU lead the investigation. The second proposal sought to eliminate certain charges and fees on electricity bills during the summer.
“In a blatant display of partisan politics, Trenton Democrats struck down comprehensive Republican proposals that would provide immediate financial relief to New Jersey’s beleaguered taxpayers and ensure greater transparency from our energy industry and its regulators,” stated Senator Holzapfel. He further criticized the BPU, saying, “The BPU cannot be entrusted with investigating rising energy costs because they are part of the problem, acting as a rubber stamp for Trenton Democrats extreme energy mandates and failed offshore wind policies for the last seven years.”
Senator Holzapfel also announced his intention to sponsor SR-134, which expresses no confidence in the BPU.
