The New Jersey Department of Agriculture has introduced a grant program to aid in the purchase and maintenance of manure spreaders, as well as to create a community use initiative for the equipment. This program targets the enhancement of nutrient management Best Management Practices (BMPs) on farms across New Jersey through the shared utilization of adequately maintained manure spreaders.

The grant offers funding up to $25,000 for a term of three years, with applications due by June 16, 2025. Eligible parties include individuals, agricultural cooperatives, non-profit organizations, and government agencies based in New Jersey. Applicants must show a robust partnership with local agricultural producers and express a commitment to advancing nutrient management within their communities.

Key elements of the program involve purchasing and maintaining a manure spreader, initiating a community usage program with at least five farms, supporting the execution of Animal Waste Management Plans with Nutrient Management Plans or nutrient budgets where the equipment will be employed, and implementing the funded activities over a three-year span.
