The Grand Avenue Pedestrian Bridge over Route 4 in River Edge, Bergen County, was closed for emergency repairs due to severe deterioration of the staircase and poor condition of the bridge deck. The bridge, which was built in 1962, is expected to undergo repairs starting Monday, February 16. The work is anticipated to last about two weeks; however, if repairs are finished earlier, the bridge will reopen sooner.
Officials noted that the timing of the repair work may change depending on weather or other unforeseen factors. Motorists and pedestrians are advised to check New Jersey Department of Transportation’s traffic information website at www.511nj.org for updates on construction and real-time travel conditions.
