Bipartisan legislation allowing preserved farms to host special occasion events has been signed into law by Governor Murphy. Sponsored by Senator Joe Pennacchio and Senator James Beach, the bill aims to provide more flexibility for farms while maintaining their primary agricultural use.
The new law permits farms to utilize recently constructed permanent structures for hosting events, with a stipulation that event revenues do not exceed 10% of the farm’s total revenue in a calendar year.
Senator Pennacchio commented on the legislation, stating, “Farmers should have the opportunity to generate additional income from their property, especially when it’s done in a way that does not jeopardize the primary use of the land for agriculture.” He added, “With the Governor’s signature, this law will strike the right balance between supporting our farmers and protecting the integrity of preserved farmland.”
