The City of Asbury Park and The Showroom Cinema announced on June 1 the return of “Movies by the Sea,” a free film series for city residents at The Showroom Cinema, located at 707 Cookman Avenue.

Admission to the screenings is free and includes one popcorn and one drink per attendee. The event is open exclusively to Asbury Park residents, with minors required to be accompanied by an adult. Free parking will be available in the municipal parking lot. Tickets are complimentary but limited, and reservations can be made by calling 732-502-5753.

More than 65 residents registered for the previous screening of Elemental, which reached capacity quickly. Upcoming films include Zootopia on June 12 and Rio on July 24, both beginning at 5:00 p.m.

“Free movies, free popcorn, free parking. Come on, you can’t beat that,” said Deputy Mayor Amy Quinn. “This is the kind of thing that makes this city special. A real night out, no cost, just good fun with your neighbors. I just hope everyone can get a seat.”

City Manager Adam E. Cruz said, “Movies by the Sea is a wonderful example of what we can offer our community when we work together with great local partners like The Showroom Cinema.” Cruz also thanked Deputy City Manager Cassandra Dickerson for organizing the event: “This is the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs at its best.”
