Steve Cortes, founder of the League of American Workers, has said that New Jersey remains a challenging but not insurmountable battleground for Republicans in the upcoming November elections. This assertion was made on the social media platform X.

“Is New Jersey winnable this November,” said Cortes. “Yes! It’s difficult, to be sure. But not impossible. See my strategy memo for victory, and making NJ a swing state into 2028, with my newest POLLING…”

According to the Associated Press, both Democrats and Republicans view New Jersey’s 2025 gubernatorial race as highly competitive. Democrat Mikie Sherrill is focusing on economic issues to attract moderate voters, while Republican Jack Ciattarelli is attempting to balance Trump-aligned policies with efforts to reach independents. Both parties are adjusting their strategies in response to signs of volatility within the state’s electorate.

A Rutgers–Eagleton Poll released in August 2025 indicated that Democrat Mikie Sherrill holds a nine-point lead over Republican Jack Ciattarelli among likely voters in the New Jersey governor’s race. The report from Rutgers suggests that while Sherrill appears to have an advantage, the contest remains close enough for Republicans to remain hopeful.

NJ Advance Media reported historically low voter turnout in New Jersey’s 2024 election, with only 4.3 million out of 6.6 million registered voters participating, representing about 65%. This was noted as the lowest turnout percentage in state history, prompting concerns about voter engagement ahead of the 2025 statewide contests.

Steve Cortes serves as Founder and President of the League of American Workers and is also a senior political advisor to CatholicVote. He previously held roles as a senior advisor to President Trump and JD Vance and has been a commentator for Fox News and CNN. The League of American Workers, established by Cortes in 2022, is a conservative advocacy organization dedicated to promoting “pro-worker patriotic populism.” Its mission focuses on supporting working-class Americans through advocacy for economic nationalism, wage growth, and immigration reform via research, media initiatives, and grassroots outreach.
