FOIA Request to Elizabeth Police Department regarding active employee roster on November 13, 2025.

The Garden State Times has submitted a formal request to the Elizabeth Police Department for access to public records under the New Jersey Open Public Records Act. The request, sent on November 13, 2025, seeks detailed information about the department’s current employees. Specifically, the request asks for any available rosters, directories, staffing lists, payroll records, or personnel summaries that include data such as names, job titles or ranks, sex or gender (if included in existing records), dates of hire or appointment, and ages or years of birth (only if this information is part of existing public-facing records).

The Garden State Times has expressed a preference for receiving these records in electronic format. Additionally, if multiple versions of such rosters exist—such as HR rosters, payroll rosters, sworn-officer rosters, and civilian-staff rosters—the most recent version of each is requested.

As a media organization dedicated to transparency and accountability in local governmental affairs, the Garden State Times emphasizes its role in gathering and reporting news to the public. The requestor also notes their affiliation with The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy—a non-profit organization that aids media companies and advocacy groups in investigating governmental agencies through Freedom of Information and Sunshine Laws.

We look forward to receiving this information in an electronic format as it will greatly aid in our reporting efforts. As always, we remain open for any questions or clarifications regarding this request.
