Essex County authorities detain suspect on serious child-sex charges

The Essex County Sheriff’s Office has announced the arrest and booking of Alexis Aguilar on October 12, 2025, on multiple child-sex charges. This information was released in a public statement.

According to the public record, the defendant is identified as Alexis Aguilar, born January 3, 2006. Aguilar is described as a Hispanic male, aged 19, standing 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighing 224 pounds. He faces several charges under New Jersey law, including endangering a child, sexual assault of a child under the age of 13 when the actor is four or more years older than the victim, permitting a child to engage in pornography, and possession or viewing of fewer than 1,000 items of child sexual abuse or exploitation material.

New Jersey statute 2C:14-2(a)(1) classifies aggravated sexual assault when the victim is under 13 as a first-degree crime. This offense requires a sentence ranging from 25 years to life imprisonment with at least 25 years before parole eligibility. Sexual assault under statute 2C:14-2(b) is considered a second-degree crime. Furthermore, under statute 2C:24-4(b)(5)(b)(iii), knowing possession or viewing of fewer than 1,000 items related to child sexual abuse is classified as a third-degree crime; possessing over 1,000 items elevates it to a second-degree crime and over 100,000 items to a first-degree crime with specified mandatory minimum sentences at higher thresholds.
