I-287 southbound in Morris County is experiencing lane closures due to emergency repairs. The issues have arisen in Riverdale and Montville, where the expansion of bridge joints has caused the concrete roadway to buckle.

In Riverdale, at mile post 52.6, the right lane is closed while the left and center lanes remain open. In Montville, at mile post 49.3, both the left and center lanes are closed. However, traffic is using the shoulder as a travel lane with the right lane remaining open.

All lanes near mile post 49.3 were temporarily closed after 3 p.m. today but NJDOT crews managed to reopen the right lane and shoulder by approximately 4:30 p.m. Repairs are ongoing and it is currently unknown how long they will take.

Motorists are advised to exercise caution, reduce speed, move over when possible, and anticipate delays. Weather or other factors may affect repair schedules. Updates can be found on NJDOT’s traffic information website.
