Congressman Donald Norcross, representing New Jersey’s 1st district, recently addressed concerns regarding a proposed bill and its potential impact on healthcare and social benefits in South Jersey. His remarks were shared via Twitter on July 2, 2025.
In one tweet, Norcross highlighted the reliance of approximately 16,000 seniors in South Jersey on Medicaid for essential services such as home care, prescriptions, and doctor visits. He warned that “this bill puts that coverage in jeopardy and makes it harder for older Americans to age with dignity.”
Another tweet from Norcross emphasized the financial burden the bill would impose on individuals already facing economic challenges. He pointed out that “the bill will cause healthcare costs to skyrocket for our neighbors already struggling to put food on the table.” Specifically, he noted that a 60-year-old couple earning $85,000 annually could see their premiums increase by more than $15,000 each year—a rise of 217% for the same coverage.
Further addressing the broader implications of the bill, Norcross expressed concern over its effect on working families. He stated that “working families would feel the pain in every corner of their lives.” He underscored that over 32,000 households in South Jersey depend on SNAP benefits to help feed their children and cautioned that these benefits are at risk despite many recipients being employed.
Norcross has been serving in Congress since 2014 after replacing Rob Andrews. Prior to his congressional tenure, he served in both the New Jersey General Assembly and Senate.
