Congressman Donald Norcross, who represents New Jersey’s 1st district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of messages on social media addressing recent legislative initiatives and the ongoing government shutdown.

On September 30, 2025, Norcross announced new legislation to support animal welfare: “Amid the chaos in Washington, I introduced legislation to make Oct 1 National Animal Rescue Day. Even in crazy times, we can do good by adopting, fostering, and supporting our local shelters.”

The following day, October 1, 2025, he emphasized party unity among his colleagues from New Jersey: “New Jersey democrats are united: stop the cuts, lower the costs, save healthcare.”

Later that same day, Norcross commented on developments in Congress regarding the federal budget: “Last night at 12:01 Republicans choose to shutdown the government rather than negotiate with Democrats on a budget that works for all Americans, not just billionaires. My colleagues and I are in DC ready to work to reopen the government whenever Republicans decide to comeback”.

Norcross has served as a member of Congress since 2014 after replacing Rob Andrews and previously held seats in both the New Jersey General Assembly and Senate. Born in Camden in 1958, Norcross continues to reside there while representing his district.
