Congressman Donald Norcross, who represents New Jersey’s 1st district in the U.S. Congress, used his social media platform on September 30, 2025, to criticize Republican lawmakers for their handling of budget negotiations and healthcare policy.

In a post made at 17:02 UTC, Norcross stated, “I stood with my Democratic colleagues today to demand action. Republicans control Congress, yet they’ve skipped town while pushing a budget that cuts Affordable Care Act tax credits and raises healthcare costs. We’re fighting to keep the government open and protect affordable”.

Later that day at 20:26 UTC, he continued his criticism by posting, “Instead of being in Washington serving the people, Republicans left town for vacation. Democrats are standing up, and saying no to healthcare cuts. Stop the cuts, lower the costs, save healthcare.”

Addressing the potential impact of a government shutdown on federal workers and service members, Norcross posted at 21:43 UTC: “If Republicans force a government shutdown, Members of Congress shouldn’t get a paycheck while federal workers and service members go without. That’s why I’ve requested my salary be withheld until the shutdown ends. Workers in South Jersey would feel the consequences of”.

Norcross has served as the representative for New Jersey’s 1st district since replacing Rob Andrews in 2014. Prior to his tenure in Congress, he was a member of both the New Jersey General Assembly and Senate between 2010 and 2014. Born in Camden in 1958, Norcross continues to reside there.
