Congressman Donald Norcross, who represents New Jersey’s 1st district in the U.S. Congress, addressed his constituents through a series of posts on October 1, 2025, discussing the impact of a government shutdown and extending greetings for Yom Kippur.

In his first post on October 1, Norcross wrote: “Day one of America being held hostage by Trump and Republicans who want to increase healthcare costs for Americans, including 24,000 people here in South Jersey. Stop the madness, stop the cuts.”

Later that day, he updated residents about available support during the shutdown: “The Republican shutdown is hurting working families, but it won’t stop me from doing my job. My office is open and ready to help South Jersey residents navigate the shutdown. Whether you need answers about your benefits, federal services, or other resources – we’re ready to help.”

On the evening of October 1, Norcross acknowledged an important religious observance in his district: “Today, Yom Kippur begins at sundown. Wishing South Jersey’s Jewish community a meaningful fast.”

Norcross has represented New Jersey’s 1st district since replacing Rob Andrews in 2014. Prior to serving in Congress, he was a member of both the New Jersey General Assembly and Senate between 2010 and 2014. Born in Camden in 1958, Norcross continues to reside there while serving his constituents.
