Congressman Donald Norcross, who represents New Jersey’s 1st district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of statements on social media addressing funding cuts to AmeriCorps, support for cancer research, and suicide awareness among military members and veterans.

On September 21, 2025, Norcross wrote: “Happy Birthday @AmeriCorps! For over 30 years, AmeriCorps members have stepped up in times of need to serve communities across the country. Trump’s cuts to this program are going to leave thousands without support. Americans deserve better.”

The following day, he emphasized the urgency of cancer research during Childhood Cancer Awareness Month: “A cure for childhood cancer can’t wait. Childhood Cancer Awareness Month is a reminder to defend the @NCI and @NIH from dangerous, partisan cuts because our kids deserve access to the best research and treatment in the world.” This post highlighted his opposition to potential funding reductions for the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and National Institutes of Health (NIH).

Later on September 22, Norcross addressed mental health challenges faced by servicemembers and veterans: “Every day, too many servicemembers and veterans struggle in silence. That’s why I’m working with @RepJudyChu and @RepKeithSelf to designate September 22 as National Military and Veterans Suicide Awareness Day. Norcross has served in Congress since 2014 after replacing Rob Andrews. Before his tenure in Congress, he served in both the New Jersey General Assembly and Senate between 2010 and 2014. Born in Camden, New Jersey in 1958, Norcross continues to reside there while representing his district.
