Last weekend, Camden County Corrections Officer Yamalis Diaz received the One Voice United Medal of Honor Award. This award is given to corrections officers who exceed their regular duties.
On December 10, 2024, Diaz was on her way to work when she witnessed a car accident. A vehicle ran a red light and collided with another car. The driver of the struck vehicle was unresponsive, prompting Diaz to act. She climbed through the broken window and assisted a pregnant mother and her child in exiting the vehicle safely.
“Officer Diaz is a wonderful example of someone who truly serves the public, on and off the job; she saw someone in need and didn’t think twice about helping them,” said Commissioner Jonathan Young, liaison to the Department of Corrections. “It is people like her that make the most meaningful impact on those they interact with. We are so grateful to Officer Diaz for all that she does and congratulate her on receiving this prestigious, well-deserved award.”
One Voice United is a national organization focused on highlighting the voices and experiences of corrections workers. Their medal of honor ceremony gathers officers from across the nation to acknowledge their bravery and professionalism.
