On Saturday, June 1st, Commissioner Melinda Kane celebrated the students and tutors of the Literacy Volunteers of Camden County (LVCC), a program run by the Camden County Library System. The initiative offers free one-on-one and small group tutoring to adults in Camden County who are at the lowest literacy levels. The sessions are tailored to meet the individual needs of each learner.

“We host this recognition day to acknowledge all of the hard work the students and tutors put into this program,” Kane said. “These students are working incredibly hard at achieving goals such as obtaining US citizenship, learning to read, and learning to speak English, and the tutors are dedicating their free time to help them along the way. This program’s impact is immeasurable, and both the participants and the tutors deserve to be celebrated for all they do to keep this program going.”

LVCC provides several literacy and English programs including:

– English as a Second Language (ESL)
– Basic literacy tutoring in math and reading
– Topical workshops in financial literacy, family literacy, digital literacy, and citizenship preparation.
