On Saturday, Commissioner Al Dyer presented a proclamation to the South Jersey Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. in celebration of the chapter’s 55th anniversary.
“This organization has a rich history and a bright future that deserves to be celebrated,” Commissioner Dyer said. “Delta Sigma Theta has served as a symbol of community service and academic excellence for decades and I am excited to see what this chapter goes on to accomplish in the next 55 years.”
Delta Sigma Theta was founded in January of 1913 at Howard University and now stands as the largest African American Greek-lettered sorority in the world, with over 200,000 members. The South Jersey chapter was founded on June 29, 1969, in Camden and now has a membership of more than 155 women.
