The Camden Fire Department unveiled a new $1.5 million Ferrara Tower Ladder Truck on Mar. 19, with Commissioner Colleen Bianco Bezich, Mayor Victor Carstarphen, Chief Jesse Flax, and department members present for the event.
The addition of the new ladder truck is intended to improve the department’s ability to respond to emergencies in multi-story buildings and enhance overall operational readiness for residents of Camden. “This new, ladder truck will further enhance the department’s operational readiness, and its ability to serve the residents of the City of Camden,” said Commissioner Colleen Bianco Bezich. She also said, “The Board of Commissioners commend Mayor Carstarphen for his unwavering support of the Camden Fire Department, including $14 million invested in equipment and improvements to firehouses since 2022.”
Ladder 3 will be stationed at the North 27th Street Firehouse and is equipped with an aerial ladder as well as a range of ground ladders designed for rescue operations, ventilation, and fire suppression in upper floors.
Formed in 1869, the Camden Fire Department is recognized as New Jersey’s first career fire department and one of the oldest professionally staffed departments in the United States.
