On Thursday, Camden County Commissioner Jeffrey Nash and Waterford Township officials held a groundbreaking ceremony for new amenities at Atco Lake Park.

“Atco Lake Park is a hidden gem that offers spectacular views, beautiful trails, and abundant wildlife,” said Commissioner Jeffrey Nash, liaison to the Camden County Parks Department. “This is another great example of park enhancements that will provide greater recreation access and opportunities for residents and visitors.”

The project will involve demolishing the current parking area and removing the Vineyard Road connection to White Horse Pike. Additional work includes taking out existing guiderails, concrete pads, islands, light bases, signage, and landscaping. A new asphalt parking lot with a cul-de-sac will be built. Improvements to White Horse Pike will include a new asphalt shoulder, curb, and striping.

Plans also call for constructing new concrete sidewalks and stone driveways to improve lake access. New water and stormwater infrastructure will be installed along with regulatory and warning signs throughout the parking lot. The area will be finished with topsoil and seeding.

Atco Lake Park covers 77 acres in Waterford Township. The county acquired it through the Open Space Trust Fund in 2008.
