The Camden County Board of Commissioners expressed their sorrow over the passing of former President Jimmy Carter, who died at the age of 100. Commissioner Director Louis Cappelli Jr. shared his reflections on Carter’s influence and legacy.
“The Camden County Board of Commissioners and I are deeply saddened by the news that former President Jimmy Carter has passed away at the age of 100,” Cappelli stated. He recalled how Carter served as a model for leadership defined by empathy and kindness when he first entered public service.
Carter, remembered as a moral leader, guided the nation through challenges following the Vietnam War. He was known for his strong advocacy for human rights, environmental protection, and world peace. Unlike many presidents, Carter continued his humanitarian work long after leaving office. For over three decades, he collaborated with Habitat for Humanity to build more than 4,300 homes alongside his wife, Rosalynn Carter.
Cappelli highlighted Carter’s journey from humble beginnings on a Georgia peanut farm to becoming President of the United States. He noted that Carter maintained humility and grace throughout his life.
“As a nation we have lost a great leader,” Cappelli remarked, “but as a people, we have not lost the love and kindness he fostered.” He concluded by affirming that every American is better off because of Carter’s contributions.
