The Camden County Office of Emergency Management has issued a Code Blue Advisory for the county due to expected dangerously low temperatures, as forecasted by the National Weather Service. The advisory will be in effect during the following periods: from Thursday, Nov. 27 at 7:00 p.m. to Friday, Nov. 28 at 7:00 a.m.; from Friday, Nov. 28 at 7:00 p.m. to Saturday, Nov. 29 at 7:00 a.m.; and from Saturday, Nov. 29 at 7:00 p.m. to Sunday, Nov. 30 at 7:00 a.m.
A Code Blue is declared when forecasts predict temperatures of 32 degrees Fahrenheit or lower, or wind chills of zero degrees Fahrenheit or lower for two hours or more.
Commissioner Jonathan Young, who serves as liaison to the Camden County Department of Public Safety, stated: “As temperatures fall to dangerously low levels, it is critical that our residents have access to a safe place to stay warm. We urge everyone to check in on vulnerable neighbors, ensure heating systems are working properly, and bring pets indoors.”
During a Code Blue event, municipalities with vulnerable populations—including those experiencing homelessness—are required to activate their response plans to meet immediate needs. The Camden County Office of Emergency Management works with each municipality in the county so they have necessary resources for severe weather situations. Each municipality designates its own locations where community members can seek shelter.
People looking for shelter should contact their local municipality for information about warming centers in their area. A complete list of warming centers can be found on the Camden County website at www.camdencounty.com/service/health-human-services/warming-centers/. Residents needing after-hours assistance can call 2-1-1 for help.
