The Board of Commissioners collaborated with the Camden County Air Quality Committee and the New Jersey Clean Cities Coalition to hold a forum on electric school buses. The event, which took place on Tuesday, focused on discussing the benefits of transitioning school bus fleets to electric power. Attendees were provided with information on funding resources, charging infrastructure, and the human impact of such a transition.
Commissioner Jeffrey Nash highlighted the significance of this initiative by stating, “School buses, like so many other common forms of transportation, rely heavily on fossil fuels and contribute to unhealthy air quality, which our region particularly struggles with.” He emphasized that the forum served as an opportunity for community leaders, activists, educators, and elected officials to collaborate in exploring steps toward electrifying school bus fleets in Camden County. “This would have the potential to positively impact our air quality and environment,” Nash added.
The Camden County Air Quality Committee was established in 2024 to tackle regional air quality issues. Its mission is to guide local government bodies in reducing contaminant levels and improving public health for residents and visitors.
