The Camden County Board of Commissioners has announced the delivery of its one-millionth meal through the Home Delivered Meal program, a partnership with the South Jersey Transportation Authority (SJTA) that began in 2017. The program uses SJTA’s vehicles, which are equipped with hot and cold storage to maintain food safety and proper temperature during transport.
Commissioner Virginia Betteridge, who serves as liaison to the Department of Health and Human Services, commented on the achievement. “This milestone reflects our unwavering commitment to ensuring food security for our senior residents,” she said. “The Home Delivered Meals program provides a sense of dignity and independence to our seniors, and every meal delivered is a reminder that they are not alone.”
Currently, more than 400 seniors in Camden County receive one ready-to-eat meal each weekday at no cost. There is no waiting list for participation in the program.
Eligibility requirements for the Home Delivered Meals program include being a resident of Camden County aged 60 or older, being unable to leave home without assistance, being unable to prepare nutritious meals independently, and not receiving Medicaid Managed Long Term Support Services (MLTSS).
