Commissioners Jeffrey Nash and Jennifer Fleisher of the Camden County Board of Commissioners have issued a statement following the recent terror attack at Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia. The attack occurred during a menorah lighting ceremony marking the start of Hanukkah, resulting in 15 deaths and at least 40 injuries.
In their statement, Nash and Fleisher said: “The Board of Commissioners is horrified and appalled by the terrorist attack that took place over the weekend at Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia. As members of the local Jewish community gathered to light the menorah in observance of the start of Hannukah, gunmen carried out a deadly attack that killed 15 people and injured at least 40 others. What should have been a celebration of faith, resilience, and light instead turned into a tragic, senseless act of violence.
At a time when antisemitism is rising to unprecedented levels around the world, the Board of Commissioners remains steadfast in its support of the Jewish community. As members of the Jewish faith across Camden County continue celebrating Hanukah in the days ahead, we stand in solidarity with them. Remember, an attack against anyone in our community is an attack against all of us, both throughout the world and right here in Camden County. Together, we will continue to stand against hate and defend the right of all people to practice their faith freely, and without fear.”
The commissioners emphasized their continued support for Jewish residents in Camden County as Hanukkah celebrations proceed locally.
