The Senate Military and Veterans’ Affairs Committee has moved forward with a bipartisan bill aimed at enhancing support services for veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and traumatic brain injuries (TBI). The legislation, sponsored by Senate Republican Leader Anthony M. Bucco, seeks to improve access to crucial evaluation and treatment services for affected veterans.

“Veterans risk their lives to protect our freedoms, and we have a duty to ensure they receive the care they deserve when they come home,” stated Senator Bucco. “This legislation eliminates barriers to treatment, ensuring that military heroes have access to the necessary resources to address PTSD and brain injuries sustained in service to our country.”

Bill S-843 mandates the Adjutant General of the New Jersey Department of Military and Veterans Affairs to develop a comprehensive program. This initiative will connect veterans with essential care needed for addressing PTSD, TBI, and other service-related brain injuries.

The proposed legislation is inclusive of all individuals who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces, including Reserve components and the New Jersey National Guard. It offers eligible veterans assistance with transportation, disability claims, healthcare access, and other vital support services necessary for diagnosing and managing PTSD and TBI.
