Senate Republican Leader Anthony M. Bucco has called for immediate action to address the ongoing NJ Transit strike, which is affecting travel for many New Jersey commuters. In a statement, Senator Bucco emphasized the need for all parties involved to return to negotiations promptly.
“Our commuters deserve safe and reliable service—now. The current NJ Transit strike is unacceptable, and I am calling on all parties to return to the negotiation table immediately. A swift and fair resolution must be reached that does not place the financial burden on the backs of our riders and taxpayers,” said Senator Bucco.
He stressed that any solution should balance fair treatment of workers with protection for commuters from fare hikes and businesses from increased taxes.
“New Jersey families rely on NJ Transit to get to work, school, and doctor’s appointments, so let’s get everyone back to the table and back to work—for the sake of our commuters and our economy,” he stated.
Senator Bucco criticized the Murphy administration and NJ Transit for not resolving this labor dispute over five years. “The Murphy administration and NJ Transit have had five years to settle this labor dispute, and their failure to do so is simply intolerable. NJ commuters deserve better,” he concluded.
In 2023, Senator Bucco expressed concerns about NJ Transit’s budget priorities, particularly their decision to invest in a new corporate headquarters in Newark costing half-a-billion dollars, which he believed could impact future transit strikes.
