Senate Republican Leader Anthony M. Bucco’s bill aimed at streamlining the promotion process within the New Jersey State Police has been signed into law by Governor Phil Murphy.
The new law grants the Superintendent of State Police the authority to adjust ranks and grades for troopers, detectives, first-line supervisors, mid-level managers, and executive level personnel without needing approval from the Attorney General.
“By cutting unnecessary red tape, this law allows the State Police to streamline merit-based promotions,” said Sen. Bucco. “Giving the Superintendent the authority to act without added bureaucracy strengthens leadership within the ranks and ensures critical positions are filled promptly so our troopers have the support they need to do their jobs effectively.”
Bucco serves as Senate Republican Leader and represents New Jersey’s 25th Legislative District in the state legislature. He also chairs the Senate Judiciary Committee and is a member of both that committee and the Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee, according to his official website. His legislative work includes sponsoring bills like S-3517, engaging in committee discussions on key issues, and providing constituent services through his district office and email for legislative inquiries.
