Senate Republican Leader Anthony M. Bucco and Warren E. Wilhide Jr. gathered to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Korean War with a ceremony at the Korean War Veterans Memorial Highway sign along Route 287. The event included a presentation of a legislative resolution.

Senator Bucco’s father, the late Senator Anthony R. Bucco, alongside Wilhide Jr.’s father, Korean War Veteran Warren E. Wilhide Sr., had collaborated to secure the original memorial designation in 2002.

“The 75th anniversary of the Korean War is a profound reminder of the bravery and sacrifice of those who served,” said Sen. Bucco. “It’s an honor to stand here today and reflect on their service, where their memory will be preserved for generations to come.”

Wilhide Jr. remarked, “It is a very special day to come together to honor our Korean War Veterans on the 75th Anniversary and to remember their courage and sacrifice.” He expressed gratitude towards “the late Senator Anthony R. Bucco, Senator Anthony M. Bucco, and fellow state and local leaders whose dedication helped preserve Route 287 in New Jersey as the Korean War Veterans Memorial Highway.”

Jim Cavanaugh, Chaplain and Senior Vice Commander of American Legion Post 59, acknowledged the efforts saying, “I am so appreciative today of Senator Bucco and Warren Wilhide Jr. following through so that the memories of these veterans are preserved for generations to come.”

During the ceremony held near mile marker 35.8 in Morris Township—also the site of the original memorial ceremony in 2002—Senator Bucco presented a resolution recognizing this milestone anniversary and honoring all who served during the conflict.

In addition, in 2023, Senator Bucco sponsored legislation that designated the Harter Road Interchange of Interstate 287 as the Warren E. Wilhide Interchange; this was signed into law.
