Senate Republican Leader Anthony M. Bucco responded to Governor Murphy’s recent announcement about energy costs, expressing skepticism about the effectiveness of the proposed measures. Bucco criticized the governor’s approach, stating that it fails to address the underlying issues contributing to high energy costs.

“Today’s announcement from the Governor is just another band aid,” said Bucco. He argued that measures such as deferring energy cost increases or providing credits on bills are insufficient for families and small businesses struggling with utility expenses. “It simply delays the pain to avoid political fallout in an election year,” he added.

Bucco accused Trenton Democrats of using these strategies as a cover-up for their failed energy policies. “Kicking the can down the road, giving everyone a credit, or blaming PJM might help with headlines, but it won’t help New Jerseyans in the long term,” he stated.

The Senate Republican leader emphasized the need for structural changes, including increasing in-state energy generation and creating an investment-friendly market for energy producers in New Jersey. According to Bucco, such steps would lead to more affordable and reliable energy solutions.

“Senate Republicans have real solutions on the table,” Bucco concluded. “We’re ready to act. Ratepayers deserve transparency and long-term relief.”
