Seventeen dams and inland waters projects are set to receive increased funding for repairs and restoration under new legislation. Senate Republican Leader Anthony M. Bucco (R-25) sponsored the bill, which was signed into law by Governor Murphy.
Bucco highlighted the significance of this investment, stating, “I’m glad that over $28M will be invested to fund projects in a number of municipalities in my District and around the State. These critical dam repairs will preserve and protect our local environment, which is critical to our quality of life. This funding will also protect the flow of clean drinking water to communities throughout the State, support recreational activities, and provide habitats for fish and wildlife.”
The measure, known as S-2594, allocates $28,670,924 from 2003 and 1992 bond act funds for loans directed at dam restoration, repair, and inland waters projects.
In particular, $5.2 million will support projects in Morris and Passaic counties, including West Milford and Jefferson Township. Specific projects and their allocations are listed as follows:
– High Crest Lake Dam will receive $1,250,000
– Mount Glen Dam will get $3,000,000
– Upper & Lower Farm Crest Dams are allocated $350,000
– High Crest Lake itself will have $500,000 in funding
– Swannanoa Lake Dam will receive $100,000
– Lake Winona Dam is set to acquire $4,700,000
Funding from the 2003 bond act will provide loans to thirteen projects, including High Crest Lake Dam, Mount Glen Dam, Lake Winona Dam, and others such as Cooper River Pkwy. Dam, Giffords Mill Dam, and Lake Plymouth Dam.
Additionally, the 1992 bond act funds are designated for four projects: Mountain Creek Lake Dam, Silver Lake Dam, Lake Garrison Dam, and Swannanoa Lake Dam.
