Senate Republican Leader Anthony M. Bucco announced on June 1 that the $2.5 million funding he secured is supporting the construction of a state-of-the-art Lake Hopatcong Marine Station for the New Jersey State Police and local law enforcement, aiming to strengthen public safety on New Jersey’s largest freshwater lake.

The new Marine Station will function as the main hub for law enforcement and search and rescue operations, serving thousands of residents and visitors who use Lake Hopatcong each year.

“Public safety has always been a top priority for me, especially on Lake Hopatcong, one of New Jersey’s most treasured recreational destinations,” said Anthony M. Bucco. “I’m pleased to see this funding now being put to work to bring these long-awaited improvements to fruition, ensuring our State Police and local law enforcement have the tools and support they need to protect boaters, respond to emergencies, and keep families safe while they enjoy spending time on the water.”

Marty Kane, Chair of the Lake Hopatcong Foundation, said: “The rebuild of the NJSP Lake Hopatcong Marine Station is urgently needed. Originally opened as a bait shop some 70 years ago, the building was never intended as a police barracks. Even with some improvements over the years, it is woefully inadequate for the modern-day needs of the troopers who serve New Jersey’s largest lake. Efforts led by Senator Bucco to bring about a modern and functional facility will have immediate and broad impacts on water safety and emergency response at Lake Hopatcong.”

This investment continues Bucco’s ongoing efforts regarding preservation at Lake Hopatcong. Last year he secured a $250,000 grant for two new boats for Morris County Sheriff’s Office Marine Unit to enhance boater protection in the area.

“Lake Hopatcong is a vital recreational and economic asset for our communities,” Bucco said. “Whether it’s enhancing boater safety or advancing efforts to protect and preserve its environmental health, I will continue fighting to ensure Lake Hopatcong remains safe, accessible, and well-maintained for generations to come.” The funding also reflects leadership shared by both Senator Bucco and his late father in advocating investments in marine infrastructure at Lake Hopatcong.

Anthony M. Bucco serves as Senate Republican Leader representing District 25 in New Jersey’s Legislature; he chairs or serves on key committees such as Judiciary Committee and Budget & Appropriations Committee, according to the official website.
