Senator Jon Bramnick has introduced a new legislative proposal aimed at providing financial relief to first responders injured while on duty. The legislation, known as SCR-120, seeks to amend the New Jersey Constitution to grant a full property tax exemption for police officers, firefighters, and emergency medical technicians who sustain injuries in the line of duty and qualify for an accidental disability pension. This exemption would be applicable solely to the primary residence of the affected first responder.

“This is a commonsense bill that would provide a full property tax exemption to our brave first responders who have been injured in the line of duty,” stated Senator Bramnick. “If they suffer a debilitating injury, the men and women who serve our communities shouldn’t be burdened with property taxes on their primary home.”

The idea for this initiative was brought forward by Antonio Marsillo, a decorated NYPD Sergeant.

A draft of the proposed legislation is available online for public viewing.
