Senator Jon Bramnick, representing Middlesex, Morris, Somerset, and Union Counties, announced his intention to cosponsor S-3112. This bill would prohibit law enforcement officers from wearing masks or disguises while interacting with the public.
Bramnick explained his position in a statement: “Transparency and public trust are essential to effective law enforcement. For that reason, I intend to cosponsor legislation that would prohibit ICE agents from wearing masks or disguises while interacting with the public in the performance of their official duties, with appropriate and clearly defined exceptions.
When officers engage with individuals and communities, the public has a right to know who is exercising governmental authority. Requiring visible identification helps ensure accountability, reduces confusion and fear, and protects both officers and the public.
This legislation is not about hindering law enforcement from doing its job. It is about reinforcing trust, clarity, and professionalism while allowing for reasonable exceptions when safety or sensitive operations truly require them.”
The proposed measure comes as part of ongoing legislative work in New Jersey. Senator Anthony M. Bucco serves as Senate Republican Leader for the 25th Legislative District and chairs the Senate Judiciary Committee while also serving on the Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee according to his official website. Bucco provides constituent services through his district office and email for legislative inquiries. He regularly sponsors bills and participates in committee discussions on state issues.
New Jersey lawmakers continue to focus on transparency within government agencies as part of broader efforts at reform.
