The Senate Military and Veterans’ Affairs Committee has approved a bill aimed at improving access to dental care for fully disabled veterans. The legislation, sponsored by Senator Parker Space (R-24), mandates that certain dental clinics prioritize appointments for these veterans.
Senator Space emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating, “Our veterans have made tremendous sacrifices for our country, so it’s our duty to make sure they receive the care they deserve. This bill is a small but meaningful way to show our gratitude and ensure our veterans have access to essential dental services.”
Currently, Rutgers University is the only institution in New Jersey with a dental school of medicine, operating three community clinics across the state. The proposed bill, S-1859, would require all dental clinics affiliated with New Jersey universities to provide timely treatment for disabled veterans within 30 days of scheduling an appointment.
