The City of Asbury Park reminded residents and visitors on May 29 that vehicle break-ins and theft are largely preventable. Officials said that taking a few seconds to lock car doors and secure belongings can help deter crime.

The city advised drivers to always lock their car doors, even when parked at home or for a short time. Residents were also urged to remove valuables from plain sight, including bags and electronics, and never leave vehicles running while unattended, even for quick stops.

Authorities encouraged the public to remain vigilant. “If you see something suspicious, please contact the Asbury Park Police Department immediately at 732-774-1300, or call 911 for emergencies,” the announcement said.

City officials emphasized community cooperation in keeping neighborhoods safe. Additional information is available on the city’s website at www.cityofasburypark.com.
