Today, Senator Carmen Amato, Jr. (R-09) expressed his support for removing the 6% limit on school aid increases for fiscal year 2026. This move aims to restore funding to school districts that experienced a net loss in State aid from fiscal year 2018 to fiscal year 2025.
Sen. Amato stated, “Our schools should not be forced to operate under an arbitrary cap that limits resources to students and teachers.” The senator criticized the governor’s 6% cap on school aid increases, emphasizing that it does not address the needs of districts struggling with funding cuts in recent years by the administration. “Eliminating this cap is a necessary step to ensure fairness in the school funding process and restore aid to districts that have been unfairly impacted,” he added.
Sen. Amato joins other Republican senators in the effort to support the financial needs of schools that have seen a decrease in state aid over the past years.
