Camden County officials have announced that a Code Orange Ozone Action Day Alert will be in effect on Tuesday, July 29. The alert indicates unhealthy air quality, particularly for people with heart or lung disease, asthma, the elderly, and children. On Wednesday, July 30, a Code Yellow is expected due to ozone levels.
“Our recommendation is for the general public to try to minimize the time they are spending outside to limit exposure to the elements,” said Dr. Paschal Nwako, Camden County’s Health Officer. “Residents are urged to monitor any symptoms of respiratory issues while we are experiencing the increases in ozone levels.”
Ozone pollution occurs when emissions from vehicles, refineries, and industrial sources react with sunlight. This can lead to harmful air conditions especially during hot and sunny days in urban areas. These pollutants can also travel by wind into rural regions.
County health officials recommend that residents adjust their daily plans and avoid extended outdoor activities during these alerts. People should stay away from high-traffic areas and limit physical activity outdoors—especially those who are sensitive such as individuals with lung diseases or young children.
The Health Department along with the Office of Emergency Management will keep monitoring local air quality and share updates as needed.
